Debut -- All Men Are Beasts
Died Same Episode
Mr. Platt's the school's counselor...I don't know how long he's been there, because he wasn't the one Principal Flutie made everyone go see when Dr. Gregory was found in the fridge back in Teacher's Pet.
Anyhoo, Buffy's supposed to see Platt as part of Snyder's reinstating her in school...like she has to be on the sane train or something. Anyhoo, Platt's first seen in his chair, facing the other way, so we don't really see him at first. He announces Buffy's name and all, and he's smoking. That's your number one tipoff that he's going to buy it. I mean, come on, we've seen those anti-smoking posters in just about every episode....
Anyhoo, when Buffy tells him that she's ready to look at inkblots or whatever but doesn't feel like talking about herself, Platt basically gives it to her straight. He tells her that he's not her friend (okay well in a way he says that) and that he's going to do the truth thing with her. So this kind of surprises Buffy and you know, it's like reminding me of the whole Dr. Gregory thing again....there was a teacher guy who took an interest in her and blah blah, and he was kinda cool.
Um, anyway, Platt sort of sums up Buffy's probs with her past love, he tells her that everyone has demons and that folks can change. He's also got some cool thingy on his desk.
Next thing you know, Debbie sort of disses Platt at lunch, saying she doesn't like what he tells her, and Buffy says she kind of likes him. That's tipoff number two that he's going to buy it in this episode.
When Buffy walks in to sort of spill her story (about the whole Angel thing, and how he's back from that place on the map called Hell), she kind of gets a Hellmouth Surprise. She notices that..he's not moving, and that he's kind of gored up, and that..his cigarette was still in his hand at the time of his death.
The Best Thing About Platt's Death?
It proves that Oz wasn't the killer in this episode.
Pete killed Platt, in Platt's office, during broad daylight..probably with his hands.
Platt and Spike?:
Platt: "Love becomes your master and you're just its dog." --
Platt: "Love becomes your master and you're just its dog." --to Buffy.
Spike: "I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it." -- to Angel and Buffy, in Lovers Walk, about love..and how you can't just be pals after being lovers or whatever.
Platt was pretty decent...and I admit, for a second I thought he was going to be Mr. Trick. Hey, I have odd thoughts once in a while.
