Eyghon (aka The Sleepwalker):

Debut -- The Dark Age (Season 2)

Died Same Episode

Eyghon's a demon with a score to settle. Apparently, Giles, Ethan Rayne, and some of their other friends conjured up this demon back in their younger days in England. Eyghon's initiates bear a funky-looking Etruscan design called The Mark of Eyghon, and it's really a bitca to remove it once it's tattooed onto your skin. Just ask Buffy or Ethan about it.

So what the heck is this demon? Well, I'm gonna just tell you what Willow read from this book....The Sleepwalker can only exist in this reality by possessing an unconscious host. I'm thinking because a conscious host would be against it. Anyhoo, temporary possession imbues the host with a euphoric feeling of power (oval office, anyone?). Unless the proper rituals -- whatever they are -- are observed, the possession is permanent and Eyghon will be born from within the host. Uck.

Once called, Eyghon can also take possession of the dead, but its demonic energy soon disintegrates the host and it must jump to the nearest unconscious or dead host in order to continue living. In this episode, we saw Eyghon possess Deirdre Page, Philip Henry, and Jenny Calendar.

So who won the battle of good and evil? Eyghon jumped from Jenny to Angel, where his demon struggled with Angel's demon. In the end, Angel's demon bested Eyghon. So much for getting your euphoric power trip that way...

I should mention that everyone Eyghon possessed, especially the dead folks, looked downright gross.

Eyghon is also what I like to call the demon prototype. Many demons which followed him (not followed, as in, were led by, you know..) either have similar type voices, or those pointy ear things, or those spotty markings. It's fun to try to see the similarities between a new demon and Eyghon. I guess I must just be easily amused...
